Home Master Scaffold Tower

I hate ladders. As soon as my feet are off the ground, my legs shake, and water starts leaking from everywhere! With my guttering broken I need to get up there to repair it, but what length of ladder do I need and how do I let go of it to actually do any work?

In the current climate, the cost of hiring a professional is prohibitive, so what’s the answer? Well, I found Home Master, a company called BPS in the UK that builds and sells DIY scaffold towers. And as this winter is supposed to be a bad one, my guttering cannot wait, so I ordered a 5-meter tower and my luck was in, as they had a sale on!

It arrived the very next working day, and as the delivery driver handed it over, I was pleasantly surprised by its weight; it was feather-light. Then I worried that something this light would not be strong enough, so I had to give it a go.

The instructions that came with the unit were clear and easy to follow, and within 20 minutes, the whole thing was built, and I was dragging it to the front of the house. The weight was a benefit, as I found that laying the unit down on its side to finish the build was easier (as then I did not need to climb the ladder, but with the unit still not complete). Due to its weight and the addition of the wheels it was so easy to move it around.

Now, once it was set under the corner of the guttering, I had to get up there. The instructions were to climb up inside the tower and I wanted to find out why. I tried the outside, but the whole tower was being pulled over, so I’d suggest not doing that and sticking to the rules. So now that it was up, I had to get up there. Being that I was inside an enclosed, covered area, climbing the ladder was actually much easier. There was something inside my head that did not register it as a ladder. Climbing up was easy, using my head to push through the trap door, and before I knew it, I was standing on the platform.

The 5-meter height was perfect. Standing on the platform, knowing I had bars on either side, I felt pretty safe and was able to stand up and replace the piece of broken guttering. Admittedly, it took a few seconds for my legs to register that it was safe, but after that, it was a breeze.

It is easy to manage the height, moving the board and the handrails is really easy, and for me to paint the side of my house is going to be so easy.

Once done, the scaffold was easy to pull apart, and it was packed away in my workshop, ready for when the end wall needs painting.

Honestly, without this tower, I would have never climbed a ladder to do this work. The price of the unit was also incredibly cheap, and with the ease, size, weight and ability to use it was the only reason I was able to do all that I could.
